9. He donated most of his salary to charity
There are a lot of politicians who love to brag about their salaries and how many donations they have made over the years. One of the most unique facts about John F. Kennedy is that he liked to be a low-key President. Since he was lucky enough to be rich even before his presidential mandate, he also loved to help those who were less fortunate than him.
JFK started giving away his salary when he was elected to Congress for the first time in 1947, and he continued doing so during his whole time as president. JFK was the richest person to hold the presidency at the time, but he made sure he wouldn’t personally benefit from the position by giving his whole salary to charity.
10. Kennedy had a secret tape system at the White House
Did you know that Nixon and the Watergate scandal were actually “discovered” by Kennedy? How can this be possible since Kennedy died long before this happened, you might ask? Well, at the White House, Kennedy had a secret tape system installed in the office. This was planned long before Nixon took office.
Kennedy reportedly intended to film White House meetings so that he could use them as sources for his biography. Throughout the Cuban Missile Crisis, in particular, he was able to capture a great deal of crucial exchanges.
Weirdly enough, this system has its benefits after all!
