4. It can make sounds
This is one of the examples I mentioned earlier that might have inspired certain horror movies. Well, a dead body can make sounds resembling sighs and groans, which can be very frightening for someone unfamiliar with it.
However, the real explanation is well-established. It appears that air can remain in the lungs of the deceased person, and during certain movements or manipulations of the body, it can escape, creating sounds. If pressure is applied to the chest area of the body, the air will be expelled, resulting in those moans or sighs.
Moreover, if the person underwent attempted resuscitation, this phenomenon is extremely common. However, resuscitation doesn’t need to be performed for air bubbles to remain in the lungs.
I know it sounds like it’s taken from a horror movie scenario, but funeral directors are well aware of this phenomenon, and that’s why there is nothing to be taken seriously about it in those moments.
As embarrassing and peculiar as it may sound, corpses can indeed experience sudden erections. This phenomenon is known as Post-Mortem Priapism. Yes, there is indeed a scientific explanation for it.
