6. The First Titanic Movie Was Released Less Than a Month After the Sinking

No. 6 on our Titanic facts list is about the first movie about the devastating sinking. Dorothy Gibson, a famous actress at the time, starred in the film that came out only 29 days after the ocean liner sank. But that’s not all; Gibson was actually one of the Titanic passengers and experienced the horrible night.

She initially refused to act in Saved from the Titanic due to the terrible experience being so recent. However, her producers badgered her to play the character, thinking that it would do really well due to its fascinating story.

The movie was finished in a week, despite Gibson experiencing multiple breakdowns and bursting into tears during shooting. Once the movie came out, it wasn’t received well. Many critics were dismayed that a studio would make a film about one of the worst tragedies in history one month after it occurred.

To top it off, everyone found the fact that Gibson had been one of the passengers and went through with the shooting unbelievable.
