8. The Iceberg May Have Been Photographed

Some real Titanic facts may seem invented, and here’s one of them. A large ship, the SMS Prinz Adalbert, had started its journey on April 15, 1912. It was midday, and the chief steward of the steamer saw something rather strange on a nearby iceberg. While he couldn’t tell exactly what it was, he noticed that it had a big red streak. The steward eventually took a photo of it.

At the time, the tragic events of the Titanic were still unknown to those on board the Prinz Adalbert. The steward added a note to the photo, writing, “On the day after the sinking of the Titanic, the liner Prinz Adalbert passed the iceberg present in this photo.” He also wrote that no one in the crew knew anything about the Titanic disaster and that the red paint looked like the damage caused by the iceberg.
