There was no airmail

If you wanted to send a letter to a relative in a different state, then the only way to do it was by trains, trucks, or motorcycles. The first set of letters sent by air was delivered in May 1918, an event that impressed a lot of people back in the days.

Nowadays, correspondence is delivered in the blink of an eye…or with a simple click by email or mobile phone. The US Postal Service is still delivering mail but the company is not making that much money as more and more people use technology for communication.

Opiates were considered over-the-counter medicine

Believe it or not, heroin was used as a treatment for cold, included in cold syrups and other related medicine. So, if you happened to have a cold or a minor ailment one hundred years ago, you could easily find morphine, opium, and cocaine at the local pharmacy.

Today, things have changed. Heroin is on the list of extremely addictive and dangerous drugs, not to mention illegal. It’s also one of the most highly abused drugs on the list.
