There was no airmail
If you wanted to send a letter to a relative in a different state, then the only way to do it was by trains, trucks, or motorcycles. The first set of letters sent by air was delivered in May 1918, an event that impressed a lot of people back in the days.
Nowadays, correspondence is delivered in the blink of an eye…or with a simple click by email or mobile phone. The US Postal Service is still delivering mail but the company is not making that much money as more and more people use technology for communication.

Opiates were considered over-the-counter medicine
Believe it or not, heroin was used as a treatment for cold, included in cold syrups and other related medicine. So, if you happened to have a cold or a minor ailment one hundred years ago, you could easily find morphine, opium, and cocaine at the local pharmacy.
Today, things have changed. Heroin is on the list of extremely addictive and dangerous drugs, not to mention illegal. It’s also one of the most highly abused drugs on the list.

I love this page. thank you for it
And people were much kinder, had common sense, decency, manners, respect & work ethic & didn’t rely on the government for handouts. They loved this country & were proud to be Americans!!
My reply is that I can never open your emails. I really would like to read of the subject matter but I can’t sit around for an hour + just to see if it opens.
After the 18th Amendment, four caves were dug near Crow Butte in NW Nebraska, where people produced, and people bought alcohol. I was in those caves in 1936 when my father and I went to Crow Butte and climbed to the top.
My parents still used the Horse and buggies and had a Model T yet when I was born. I lived though the Model A times and had one that I bought for $100, then fixed it up to look almost like new and sold it for $500. in 1950.
I guess people were not aware of the Fair Labor Act in NW Neb. as I worked full time in a gas station in the summer of 1941 before my 8th birthday. I got paid $.17/hr. That is right, 17 cents. I also did the janitor work at the Bank starting when I was in 8th grade.
Wow that was fun!
Very informative.
It was in the 1920’s and early 1930’s that radios became a household item. TV’s didn’t come
popular until late 1940’s. Not only were the radios very primitive but some had to be tuned by
moving a whisker on germanium crystals. The air condensers were starting around the late 1920’s.
While Morphine, heroin, opium and cocaine are illegal to the general public, it is a fact that the majority of the drugs on the market still are made from derivatives of those same drugs. They require a prescription from your doctor now.
My Mother was born for 100 yrs ago and lived through all of this. I could Never replace such a Beautiful, Loving & Lovely Woman as She was. I will Miss her till the day I die 🥺♥️
People do realize
cool stuff
Great subject matrer!
By 1920 most people could read and write. Now our young people can no longer write and/or read letters written throughout history or, for that matter, written by their parents and grandparents.
If our power grid is attacked or goes down, young people do not have the ability to communicate and/or even do the math required to purchase anything.
This is a mistaken message, i.e., the Ford Model “T” was the only car people drove in 1925. I know of Oldsmobile, Chevrolet, Willys, Packard, to name only a few. Please keep your facts actual. Thank you.
Not so that in 1925 “parents (in most cases) decided who their children would marry”. In most cases the two people decided by themselves that they would marry each other.
I lived through a lot of this at the end of that time. I walked into caves that were used to make brew during probation. We had a lot of large families, getting together during these times. My first car was a Model A with a few miles on and it needed new tires and the soft top. I did get the new tires and put them on and then the new top. Total cost was $138.00. Two years later, I sold it for $500.00.
I worked in a gas station for o.17 cent/hour. That is right, seventeen cents/hr.
But all of that, got me working and doing a lot of things in my life. I have been totally Blessed.
Hey they still do the horse and buggy
