3. The Wreck of The Titan

We keep going with other strange Titanic facts. In 1898, author Morgan Robertson wrote a book called The Wreck of the Titan: Or, Futility. The plot is all too familiar. Long story short, Robertson had written about a ship, the Titan, venturing on its maiden voyage across the Atlantic that hit an iceberg and sank.

The liner didn’t have enough lifeboats, and the author described it as being “unsinkable” for the main reason that it was the biggest ship of its day. Yes, this sounds way too familiar, and the book was written 14 years before the tragic event on the Titanic.

Several theories proliferated, with many people wondering whether Robertson was a prescient writer, while others said he knew exactly what he was writing about as he talked mainly about maritime affairs.

Maybe he saw ships becoming bigger and bigger and thought about the dangers of this, including icebergs. The author was approached and asked if he was prophetic after the sinking of the Titanic. His answer was, “No, I just know what I’m writing about.”

Well, it would be an understatement to say that some Titanic facts are mind-bending.
