1. “A Nightmare on Elm Street” is based on a real story
Have you ever watched “A Nightmare on Elm Street”? If you find it disturbing and rather weird, wait until you read these scary random facts. We’ll start with the fact that the movie we previously mentioned is based on a true story.
Director Wes Craven came up with the idea for the marvelous film after he read a story in the LA Times: a boy didn’t want to go to sleep for plenty of days in a row because he had weird nightmares of being chased and killed in his sleep.
Even though the little boy tried to stay awake for several days, he was exhausted and fatigued, and when he finally fell asleep, he had another nightmare and died in the middle of the night.
I told you that there are many scary random facts that we have to cover in this article, and we’re not done with this story yet. The reason why the little boy had so many nightmares was the fact that he was from Cambodia and his family moved to the United States to escape the genocide in the Killing Fields, so he was actually a victim of PTSD.
The boy wasn’t the only Asian victim who died in his sleep after being the victim of a traumatic event. There were other cases of people who lost their lives while they were asleep, but researchers didn’t find any connection between those deaths.
Long story short, that’s how “A Nightmare on Elm Street” was born. Were these scary random facts enough to make you stay awake at night? What can I say? Have sweet dreams tonight.

2. There are 10 million dust mites on your bed
We continue with these scary random facts because there are many things we have to discover. For instance, did you know that there are approximately 10 million dust mites on your bed?
They LOVE your warm and cozy sheets and don’t mind living on your dead skin cells. As disturbing as it might sound, they’re actually like these conditions, and they thrive when your bed fits their requirements.
The worst thing of all is that these tiny dust mites can easily multiply, and you could have thousands or even millions of families lying on our bed. If you can learn anything from all these scary random facts, it is that you should pay attention to what you dream about and that you have to wash your bed sheets on a regular basis to keep them germ-free.
3. The Island of the Dolls is haunted
Did you know that there’s a small island located in the south of Mexico City that is supposedly haunted? The legend says that there was once a little girl who used to love the island, but one day, the island’s caretaker found her drowned. Nobody knows what happened to the girl or why she was dead on the island, but the story says that the girl’s spirit never left.
After her mysterious death, the caretaker found something just as weird: a doll floating in the island’s water. He grabbed it and hung it on a tree as a way to calm the girl’s spirit.
We’re not done with these scary random facts about the Island of the Dolls, so brace yourself because there’s more to the story. The girl’s spirit didn’t calm down, and she was even angrier and continued to haunt the man who found her dead body.
The caretaker tried to please the spirit and wanted to convince it to let him go, so he started hanging more and more dolls on the island’s trees. We don’t know if this plan succeeds or not, but it might be possible that the girl’s spirit is still haunting the island because many tourists say that they saw the dolls move their heads and whisper to one another.

4. “The Devil’s Bible” is real
Religious people, you might not appreciate what I’m about to tell you, but it’s true, and we have to discuss it. Codex Gigas, also known as “The Devil’s Bible”, is the biggest Latin manuscript that was ever discovered.
Sources say that the manuscript is home to the dangerous and bizarre contract that was made by a monk who decided to sell his soul to Satan many years ago, in the 13th century, as a way to escape execution.
But the contract isn’t the only interesting piece of information you could find there, because people say that there’s also a full-page portrait of Satan in the manuscript, so if these aren’t real-life scary random facts, I don’t know what are.
5. Drinking blood and power
Okay, we’ll keep the history lane here, but many were the scary random facts that people used to do thousands of years ago, and some of them are hard to believe, but they indeed happened.
In Ancient Rome, for instance, blood transfusion was a very popular and requested practice. During the time when there were gladiator fights at the Colosseum, people had a weird belief that drinking the blood of someone powerful would automatically make them more forceful too.
So when the gladiators were involved in a game, people in the audience would rush into the field to gather and drink the blood of fallen fighters. That was their way of absorbing skills and power, and we’re glad that this practice no longer exists today.
6. Museo delle Anime del Purgatorio
The list of scary random facts continues, and this time we’ll talk about documents that are supposedly signed by haunted souls in purgatory. At least, this is what people who visited the Museum of the Souls of Purgatory (Museo delle Anime del Purgatorio) say.
You can visit this museum in the city of Rome, Italy, and you’ll be amazed and also terrified to look at all those crazy things that are displayed there. The collection that the museum staff put together for curious visitors contains plenty of photos and documents with handprints that are claimed to belong to people stuck in Purgatory or people who died and went to a different place.

7. Human skulls and bowls
If you think that today’s world is home to many random scary facts, we have to travel back in time and discuss them more because things were more bizarre in the past. Take this one, for instance: back in ancient England, people used to drink their favorite beverages from hollowed human skulls.
Oh yes, trust me, you’ve read that right: people used to hollow the skulls, remove the tissue left, and use those new skulls as cups and bowls. Just imagine that you wanted to drink some water after a long day of fighting. No problem; there was an empty skull waiting to hold your water. Yep, not my cup of tea.
Thank God that we have normal bowls today, because I wouldn’t want to drink my water or eat my soup out of my grandmother’s skull.
